Alex Keto Exhibition

South Florida artist Alex Keto graduated from Yale University in 1983 with an art degree. He specialized in sculpture and drawing. After his graduation, he worked at The Oak Ridger, a newspaper in East Tennessee, both as a reporter and photographer, where he learned the photography process in the darkroom - he won an Associated Press first prize for deadline photography on his last year in this newspaper.

Fushu Daiko 30th Anniversary Virtual Concert

This virtual concert premieres on October 24 at 7:00 PM. The Fushu Daiko organization was established in 1990 and is celebrating their 30th Anniversary in 2020. This virtual concert is an energetic representation of the beautiful spirited tradition of Taiko Drumming. Taiko is discipline of body, strength, power, and stamina, as well as mindfulness, self-control, and spirit. This performance includes three great Odaiko drums and an assortment of barrel drums, bells, gongs, conch shells and Japanese bamboo flute.

This month, is a special Soulful Sundays as we closeout with the celebration of the 100th birthday of Esther Rolle through poetry, dance, and a concert by the Old Skool Gang. The Old Skool Gang is the brainchild of Entertainment Executive, and former KC and the Sunshine Band Member, Paul Lewis. Paul’s musical career has spanned four decades and his smooth first tenor voice is just the right flavor to make you remember artists like Smokey Robinson, El Debarge, The Stylistics, Switch, Eddie Kendricks, O’Bryan, Sam Cooke & Enchantment. The Old Skool Gang stay on top of the Best Music of Yesteryear.

Two of the Gypsy Lane Band members were the backing musicians for such groups as the Village People, the Ritchie Family and Instant Funk and performed with Patti La Belle, cCndy Lauper and Lou Rawls. This band will get your party going with the soul of the Gospel, Jazz, Motown and Reggae!

Soulful Sundays features South Florida's top performers and bands in various genres ranging from Soul, R&B, Neo Soul, Blues to Jazz and Funk. Merging local and national artist, organizations and vendors, this program creates an unforgettable monthly musical experience that enriches as well as celebrates the history and culture of the African American community in Pompano Beach.

In 1975, acclaimed actress of stage and television, Esther Rolle, released an album entitled, “The Garden of My Mind.” This album revealed a mind full of warmth and goodness. Growing up as the daughter of a Florida bean farmer, and the 10th of 18 children, she experienced love, sorry, defeats and triumphs. On this album she reflected and recreated those moments and common threads of human emotion. In this month Lyric’s Lab, you will enjoy the live music that you are used to, singing, poetry, and hear three Spoken-Word poets as they recreate and pay homage to this incredible album.

“Uniting Our Community this Holiday Season”

What a better time to come together than during the holidays? Please join us for this VIRTUAL event as we unite Pompano Beach through light. You will enjoy holiday performances by Blue Boy Band, Solo Selection, and Ashanti Cultural Art Dancers. Watch as locations throughout the City light-up and even see a live virtual fireworks display!

The Mayor will do the celebratory countdown to introduce the creative displays of holiday lights at seven locations throughout the City.

The holiday fireworks will follow the virtual lighting for all to enjoy.

The virtual Light up Pompano Beach will be streamed through the cities website, CH78, the cities Facebook page and YouTube channel.

This event is made possible in large part by the contributions of the Light Up MLK Committee and their collaboration, which has allowed us to combine the annual Light Up MLK event with the annual Yuletide event.

18th Annual Green Market Pompano Beach

Opening Day is November 28!
Come out to enjoy Pompano Beach’s green market and support our local businesses.

We have moved to the Pompano Beach Cultural Center! All the vendors you love plus new surprises!

The Green Market Pompano Beach is presented by the Pompano Beach Historical Society in partnership with the City of Pompano Beach and occurs every November – April on the second and fourth Saturday of each month from 9 am – 2 pm. We are committed to providing the community with the best and freshest fruits and vegetables, juices, baked goods, seafood and other food items, as well as orchids, plants, and health-related products and services. Visitors will also find hand-made crafts, art and culinary products at the Market. Each Green Market date will have a different theme, creating unique and exciting experience every time you visit!

On opening day, the market will feature the traditional 18th Annual Green Market Pompano Beach Ribbon Cutting ceremony at 10 am. Yoga on the Great Lawn, led by Samantha Marcum, will take place from 10 – 11 am and unique shopping can be enjoyed throughout the event while you are entertained by the music of DJ Trish. Masks, social distancing and one-way foot traffic will be required. There will be hand washing stations and designated eating areas for patron safety.
